Hon. Thomas Jenkins Semmes C.S.A.

He settled in New Orleans immediately after marriage and in June 1858, by President Buchanan he was appointed the United States District Attorney for that area.On Jan 26, 1860 he was elected the Attorney General of Louisianna and represented Louisiana in the Confederate Congress. Was universally regarded as one of the most brilliant legal minds of the country.

Benedict Joseph Semmes

enlisted 3/8/1862 as sergeant in CO. L 154th Tennessee Regiment under Col. Preston Smith of Maynard Riflemen. Was wounded at the Battle of Shiloh on Apr 6, 1862, uon recovery was commissioned as Captain of the Army of Tennesse on Sept 1, 1862 and assigned duty as Chief Depot Commissary of that Army on July 12, 1863, Promoted to Major on February 5, 1865 and surrendered on May 41865. He was paroled at Gainesville, AL
